Devkund Waterfall Trek – A Journey Through History, Nature & Heart

Have you ever had one of those days where everything just feels right? The weather, the company, the journey everything comes together like a perfect plan from the universe. That’s exactly what my Devkund Waterfall trek felt like.

On a fresh morning at 5 AM, I packed my bag, laced up my trekking shoes, and set off from Dombivli with my friends. What followed was not just a physical trek, but an emotional journey through lush landscapes, historical pride, and inspiring humanity. And I can’t wait to take you along.

Our journey began with a cheerful pickup and a smooth ride down the highway. Our first major halt – Imagica junction, where we grabbed a quick but energizing breakfast.

Umberkhind

Umberkhind is a narrow mountain pass in the Sahyadri ranges, rich with historical significance. In 1661, this forested valley witnessed a legendary guerrilla battle where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his smaller Maratha army defeated the larger Mughal force led by Kartalab Khan. The natural terrain helped Shivaji Maharaj trap and outsmart the enemy, showcasing the brilliance of Maratha warfare. Visiting the Samarbhumi Umberkhind Smarak today not only honors those brave warriors but also gives us a chance to feel connected to our proud heritage.

Bhira – The Base Village

Post-Umberkhind, we continued through scenic roads, passed Pali, and finally reached Bhira village, the base of the Devkund trek. The air was fresh, and the valley felt alive. I was humbled and excited to meet several JKV subscribers here, who recognized me and appreciated my vlogs it was a special moment that reminded me of the growing travel family we’ve built together.

With our energy renewed, we started the trek. The path was beautiful streams to cross, jungle trails to follow, and the occasional call of birds in the background. But as I soaked in nature’s magic, I noticed another side of the trail: plastic bottles, wrappers, and trash scattered by irresponsible tourists.

However, what truly inspired me was seeing a group of trekkers voluntarily picking up garbage along the way. Hats off to them! These are the real heroes of eco-tourism, showing us how we can all do our part.

Kundalika Valley

Kundalika Valley is a natural marvel that stuns trekkers with its untouched beauty. As you trek toward Devkund, a viewpoint opens up to this vast green landscape, revealing layers of forested hills, deep valleys, and flowing streams. This valley is also home to the origin of the Kundalika River, which later becomes popular for white-water rafting near Kolad. Standing there in silence, taking in the fresh air and the endless views, it’s a moment that makes you pause and admire nature’s grandeur.

Devkund Waterfall

Devkund Waterfall is truly a hidden gem of Maharashtra, located deep within the forest near Bhira village. After a moderately challenging trek, you’re rewarded with the sight of a majestic waterfall plunging straight into a natural pool with mesmerizing blue waters. Surrounded by towering cliffs and dense trees, the scene looks like something out of a dream. What impressed me the most was the well-managed site thanks to the efforts of forest guards and locals, the area remains clean, safe, and controlled to ensure nature is respected.

Final Thoughts

This journey to Devkund was much more than just a trek it was an eye-opening experience. While I was in awe of the scenic beauty, I was equally disturbed by the plastic waste littered along the trail. But then, I saw a group of trekkers voluntarily cleaning the trail, collecting garbage left by others. It was a powerful reminder that nature gives us so much joy, and we must give back by protecting it. Devkund taught me not only to admire the outdoors but also to act responsibly. Let’s all strive to be better travelers and better humans.
