My recent trip to Alibag was all of that and more. What made this journey special was the people I met, the places I explored, and the moments I shared with my family. Here’s a glimpse into my unforgettable journey through the scenic lanes of Alibag.
It all began with a smooth, non-stop drive from Panvel. To the well-maintained Mumbai-Goa Highway, the trip was fast, comfortable, and traffic-free. After a few hours of enjoying the road, I finally reached my destination Sahyadri Resort Alibag, a serene stay hosted by my dear friend Harshal. The warm welcome, cozy rooms, and calm surroundings made it feel like a second home.
Soon after checking in, I decided to head straight to the beach. The salty air, the sound of the waves, and the stunning view of Kulaba Fort from the shore made the moment unforgettable. As the sun began to set, casting golden hues over the water, a deep sense of relaxation washed over me. It wasn’t just about sightseeing it was about soaking in every moment with the people who matter most. That evening, I had a peaceful dinner with my family a moment of bonding that no destination can ever replace.
History of Alibag
Alibag isn’t just a weekend escape it has a rich and proud legacy. The town’s name is derived from “Ali’s garden,” named after a wealthy Jewish plantation owner who settled here. Historically, Alibag served as a naval base for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who built the Kulaba Fort in the 17th century to guard the Konkan coastline. Later, Portuguese and Maratha rulers left their marks through forts and trading outposts like Revdanda and Korlai. Walking through these structures gives you a glimpse into the military and trade history of coastal Maharashtra.
Alibag Beach & Kulaba Fort
The highlight of my first evening was the visit to Alibag Beach. It’s the most accessible and popular beach in town, ideal for long walks, peaceful sunsets, and water views of the iconic Kulaba Fort. During low tide, one can even walk up to the fort. Though partially submerged during high tide, this sea fort built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj still stands proudly, preserving the spirit of Maratha strength. Watching the waves crash around its base as the sun dipped into the Arabian Sea was a visual I’ll remember for a long time.
Revdanda Fort and Revdanda Beach
The next morning, after a refreshing swim in the resort pool and a spicy misal pav breakfast, I had an unexpected yet delightful meeting with actor Devdatta Nage Sir, who appreciated my vlog work a motivating moment that added magic to the trip.
Later, I headed toward Revdanda, a quieter and more offbeat spot in Alibag. The Revdanda Beach has black sand and an untouched charm, far from the noise of commercial tourism. Next to the beach lies the Revdanda Fort, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. Though in ruins now, its thick walls and arched gateways whisper tales of a time when the Konkan coast was a prized trade hub. It’s a photographer’s paradise and a history lover’s dream.
