Exploring the Virupaksha Temple

One of the most iconic sights in Hampi is the Virupaksha Temple, a centuries-old Hindu temple dedicated to Virupaksha, a form of Lord Shiva. The temple is full of fascinating details and intense colors that tell stories about Indian culture centuries ago. It houses several shrines dedicated to different aspects of Hindu mythology; many sculptures depict events from the great epics Ramayana and Mahabharata; and its ceilings are adorned with magnificent frescoes that come alive in the soft light of day.
