Our first evening walk along the dam was magical the reflection of the crimson sky in the backwaters, the cool breeze, and the subtle calls of the wild made it unforgettable. Later that night, we ventured into the forest for a night jungle safari. Though wrapped in darkness, the jungle whispered with sounds of nocturnal life – a thrilling and humbling experience.
Hatti Mahal & Bhogavati River
The next morning began with a trip to the historic Hatti Mahal, stands as a silent witness to a regal past. The name “Hatti” translates to “elephant”, and it is believed that this structure was once used by royalty during hunting expeditions, particularly by Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj and his entourage. In those days, the forest region now protected as the Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary was a royal hunting ground, and Hatti Mahal likely served as a resting palace or lookout point during such ventures.
For history lovers and explorers, Hatti Mahal is more than just a stop on the journey it’s a bridge between Maharashtra’s royal past and its wild present.
Though partially in ruins, it still holds a majestic charm and offers a scenic view of the surrounding valleys. It was a brief yet enriching stop on our return journey to the resort.
Post-lunch, we took a detour to the Bhogavati River, a hidden gem tucked within the region. The river’s crystal-clear water and peaceful surroundings offered the perfect place to relax. Swimming in the calm current with forest canopies overhead felt like a meditation in motion.

Into the Heart of Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary
Our final jungle safari was nothing short of breathtaking. From the sanctuary’s main entry gate, we saw the backwaters of Radhanagari Dam, pristine and silent – a preview of the untouched world inside.
A part of the Dajipur Jungle, the sanctuary is most famous for its Indian Bison (Gava), often spotted grazing in meadows or walking along water paths. The thrill of trying to spot a Gava was real – and eventually, we did spot one in the distance, a majestic symbol of this protected area.
The trail then led us to Lakshmi Talav, a serene lake within the sanctuary, and later to the main wall of Radhanagari Dam, an architectural beauty surrounded by rich flora.
A little further, we reached Konkan Darshan Point, a high plateau that offers panoramic views of the Konkan region – an ideal place for birdwatching. With over 235 bird species, the sanctuary is a bird lover’s paradise. We saw hornbills, flycatchers, and several endemic species fluttering among trees.
The final highlight was “Sawrai Sada”, a quiet forest meadow where we finally glimpsed Rangava, the elusive bison. It felt like a reward after a long, immersive journey through nature.

A comforting bowl of Dudhachi Amti, a traditional Maharashtrian delicacy that truly warmed our hearts. The next morning, after a simple breakfast and a lingering final look at the surrounding greenery, we bid farewell to this magical place with hearts full of gratitude and minds full of memories.
